RICHMOND - Gerry Wayne Brooks, 35, of 1417 N. Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 22, 1992) in the McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.
He was born April 5, 1957, in Waynesboro, a son of Sydney and Louise Berry Brooks.
He graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1976. He attended Upward Bound at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia State University in Petersburg and University of Delaware in Dover.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was an employee of the AT&T Telephone Co. in Washington, D.C.
He was a former employee of CACI in Washington, Kroger of Waynesboro and Stop-In Waynesboro.
He was a volunteer for Whitman Walker Clinic in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Waynesboro, and attended the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a paternal grandmother, Beatrice Brooks; two brothers, Curtis Lee Brooks and Garrick Levi Brooks, both of Richmond; two half-brothers, Leroy Simms of Greenwood and Robb Woodard of Crimora; four sisters, Mrs. Karen K. Green, Ms. Cynthia Ann Brooks, Mrs. Sidney Allison Wilmot and Sylvia Mae Blair, all of Waynesboro; and many aunts, uncles and nephews.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church by the Rev. A.T. Crawley. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro.
Pallbearers will be John Obie, Bobby Hobson, Shane Strother, Sarnell Berry, Charles Nicholas and Nathaniel Nicholas.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Louise Brooks, 983 10th St., or his aunt, Rachael Fitch, 200 Hunter St., Waynesboro.
There will be no public viewing.
